Scienced out!

9 February 2007No Comment

I woke up today with a strong urge to bring the two kids out. Just want to take them to somewhere interesting. Zoo. Park. Anywhere.

And so, we went to Singapore Science Centre today!

It was (obviously) the kids’ first trip there. And the last time I went to Science Centre was about 7 years ago. Quite a lot of things have been nicely upgraded actually!

The three of us took the bus, the train and walked under the scorching sun for a while. When we finally entered the building … ah, the gentle breeze from the air-conditioner was just sooo nice!

Anyway. Anya had a blast there.

She pressed on the buttons. Checked out the exhibits. Saw live sea animals (there’s an aquarium section!). And hmm, she got shocked quite a few times at the sudden rather-loud sound of metal exhibits. Hehe. She went and pressed on the buttons again and again afterwards though!

Right now Anya may not really understand the scientific concepts the exhibits are trying to show (and teach). BUT I still think it’s great that Anya went there today because I’d like to simply … introduce her to the fun and cool aspects of science.

The actual scientific explanation written on the panels obviously is a bit too ‘advanced’ for toddlers, and so I just simplify things and explain some of them to her.

Like when we saw an exhibit showing two metal rods and how electricity travels up and down the rods, I explained to her that electricity can pass through metals and that she must remember to always be careful with stuff like power points, electrical sockets, etc. You know. The basic safety tips kids need to know.

Anyway.

Our day out was great!
