“Thanks” to today’s gadgets, more and more kids tend to say, “I don’t know what I’m good at. I don’t know what I like. I’m not interested in anything actually.” (But somehow they are interested …

When she turns ONE!

8 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

It’s amazing how fast kids grow. Watching Anya grow into the happy and easy-going one-year-old little kid she is reminds me every day how blessed we both are.

And and … we took Anya to Jurong Birdpark today!!!

She always gets all excited when she sees birds or dogs, and so we thought it’s a good idea to start her 1st year in life appreciating more of nature’s big and small.

So when Anya turned one, she saw for the first time: flamingos, penguins, eagles, pelicans, swans, lories and many other colourful God’s creatures.

And after she saw 3 ostriches and their wobbly necks, she dozed off.

I hope they didn’t bore her too much.

What do we do when …

We make decisions nearly every second. What clothes to wear, when will I brush my teeth, how will I comb my hair, what to have for lunch, etc etc. And as parents to a one year old, decision making gets tougher.

What do we do when Anya chews her food for TEN MINUTES? What do we do when she wants to play with a stranger’s purse during our train ride? What do we do when .. what do we do when … (And of course, we’d like to make as wise a decision as possible each time).
Just like last night when she wanted to play and play and play, when it’s actually time to sleep and sleep and sleep. And so before I said anything, I toyed with a few different possible actions in my mind: I could get angry and force her to sleep (which won’t work, I think) or play along with her all night long (not a good thing to do, too).

In the end, I got my digital camera out and took some photos, hehe. After that, I pretended to sleep (while she’s still bouncing on my back, playing ‘horsie’!). She fell asleep on her own in 10 minutes.

I realise that was not a complex decision to make. A wrong decision at that time will not be fatal.

BUT, in life there are decisions we all have to make which are MUCH more important and serious.

Like, to whom do we put our faith and trust, and whether we’ve made that decision today. For this particular instance, our decision crucially determines where and with whom we’ll spend our eternity later on.

The inseparables

Kids and toys are basically inseparable. The newer the toys, the better. And since I can’t afford to supply Anya with new toys all the time (unless I own a toy store … hmmm), whenever I feel like giving Anya the thrills of playing with ‘new’ toys (without having to buy any, hehe), I take her to Seiyu’s Play Corner, at Bugis Shopping Centre, level 3.

The play area is not that big (rather small, actually), but there are quite a few colourful playthings, enough to get Anya all bouncy and excited for quite some time.

Now and then

Anya’s whereabouts same week last year.

Phew … I’m glad God designs pregnancies to last for a max of 42 weeks only!

‘Professional’ help

1 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

Hardly anything comes free nowadays. But we DID enjoy something free today and it’s a really good deal!

IKEA offers free space planning for your home. Just make an appointment with the home furnishing service department. You’re under no obligation to buy their products, but they can only help you plan for just one room (Don’t push it. It’s free!).

So to IKEA we went today (not forgetting to bring our new home’s floor plan, of course). After describing to them things like, what the room will be used for, the things we need to have inside the room and blah blah blah … the interior designer started on her ‘homework’. During that 1 hour of waiting, we had a quick bite at Burger King and Anya had fun at the children’s section!
Their advice looked and sounded great! Not sure if we can afford to buy the suggested furniture though. Ha.

Mobile phones put a smile on her face and get her excited. She’d put one hand on her ear when she sees one and starts to babble on …

Can’t imagine how we’ll cope when she actually makes countless phone calls to her teenage friends later on!
