Exploring Our Children’s Potentials

14 July 2022 – 3:34 pm |

“Thanks” to today’s gadgets, more and more kids tend to say, “I don’t know what I’m good at. I don’t know what I like. I’m not interested in anything actually.” (But somehow they are interested …

Taxi rides

20 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

When we take taxis, we sometimes chat with the drivers and they often have interesting stories to tell. Some would complain about the Singapore government or talk about how the Indonesian government can do BETTER (this sort of goes automatically, ie. once they’ve figured out that we are Indonesians! Hehe.)

Some would share with us stories of how their passengers once ran away without paying or how they had to ask for police officers to wake their drunk passengers up (apparently, male drivers here tend to be very cautious about waking up drunk females to avoid getting accused of sexual harassments)

Anyway, overall I can feel relatively safe taking a taxi here in Singapore. Even late at night. Too bad I can’t say the same about taxi rides in Jakarta! I’d rather stay at home than take one, even in broad daylight!

A few updates

19 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

> Anya cruises along rails and sofas well and can stand up by herself for a few seconds, before falling down on her bum (but thanks to her diaper, she’s always well padded. Hehe)

> She understands most of the things we say and would do (hmmm, 60% of the time!) the things we ask her to do

> She’s mastered the skill of ‘getting down from Mommy’s bed’

> She LOVES playing with cords and cables. She’d go into our study room and head straight to where we keep all our battery chargers (unplugged, of course). These things keep her busy for a very long time!

> She’d rock her body to music everytime (Ah, good on you, Anya!)

My very own ‘mini me’ baby

18 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

I personally haven’t seen the movie ‘Austin Powers’. Have seen its trailers, familiar with Mike Myers’ characters in the film, just haven’t watched the movies.

Thing is, lately Anya’s been doing the well known ‘mini-me-one-finger-in-the-mouth’ thingy. Not sure where she got it from. She does it with her index finger, though. Hehe.

Early dental care

17 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

I think getting kids to see that brushing their teeth can be fun should start early. Anya sure enjoys chewing on her baby tooth brush!

She’d do it while lifting her legs, playing with her tiny toes and … smiling to the camera!

Early friendship

16 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

It’s cute watching babies play. One would pull another’s hair, the other retaliates with a poke on the nose. One would want a sip from another’s water bottle, and the other … well, the other doesn’t care usually, because she’s also eyeing for somebody else’s! Hehe. (the neighbour’s grass is always greener’ philosophy starts from an early age, huh!)

Out of all Anya’s baby friends, she plays with Hans the most. He’s 3 months younger but he’s now as big as her, if not bigger!

Anyway, I sometimes do wonder, what if 25 years from now they really end up with each other? Haha … now THAT would REALLY be interesting!

I guess we can only wait and see.

Work those muscles

14 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily, Food & Health | No Comment

I found out that our face has more than 30 muscles and that it takes about 37 muscles to frown and about 22 to smile.

Looking at the different expressions Anya make everyday, her facial mucles must have been really well toned. Hehe.

The art of photography

11 March 2005 | Posted in: Photography | No Comment

I just LOVE these photos!

After Wilson told me about Patrick Demarchelier’s amazing fashion works, I went and browsed through his photos, and when I came across these shots!

I was lost for words.

10 minutes

10 March 2005 | Posted in: Daily, Photography | No Comment

One of the many good things about having a photographer cum designer as a hubby is that I can be sure important moments are nicely captured. Hehe.

This photo was taken by Wilson 10 minutes after Anya’s birth. The nurse wiped her clean, weighed her and wrapped her warmly in this mustard-coloured towel (I got to hold and nurse her only after the doctor was done with the 30-minute stitching job!)

I personally like this photo. It captured Anya’s newborn look. Her face still looked kinda funny. The eyes, the nose, the reddish and blotchy skin (well, newborns are not models, especially after being immersed in water for 9 months!).

We thought she looked like a Mongolian / Nepalese baby in this picture. The kind that you see in National Geographic magazines. Heh.

And so that’s how this ‘Cover Page’ idea came about.

About Anya, Her Love for Words and God’s Grace

Now that Anya is in K2 (read: Kindergarten 2, the year before she goes to Primary One here in Singapore), I get to see more of her love for writing and words.
Which to me is …

Parenting: Really there with our kids, or ‘just happen to be there’?

Parenting: Really there with our kids, or ‘just happen to be there’?

Being a fulltime parent doesn’t necessarily mean we’re REALLY there with our kids.
I mean, we can be ‘with’ our kids because we’re interacting with them while we’re doing ‘other things’.
But really, when we are there …

Why We Should Let Children Carry Their Own Bag

10 October 2018 | Posted in: Inspirational, Parenting | No Comment

Ever seen kids whose school bags are carried by someone else (parent / grandparent / helper / nanny / driver)?
I have.
Quite frequently actually.
Errrr … I have even seen TEENS whose school bags / sports bags …

Reality of Approaching FORTY!

No, I don’t mind people knowing my real age.
I’m going to be 39 this year.
Seriously though, I do feel the number ’39’ to be … old! Haha.
Perhaps, it’s because I don’t ‘feel old’?
When I was …

If we’ve made a ‘bad decision’, then we (unfortunately) will live with …
