Me-time for mom, fun time for son

16 January 20096 Comments

Ever since Anya started school some two weeks ago, I’d usually let Vai stay a little longer and play at the school playground.

He’d roam around, ride on the tricycles, go on the swings and slides and do all sorts of stuff there (which explains his tanned arms and legs!)

Now earlier today, apparently NO students went to the playground area.

It was completely deserted. It was so good.

And so there I was, alone, on a bench. I took out my book and watched Vai from a distance.

He was totally engaged in water-play, for a good ONE hour!

Pouring water from one cup to another. Imagining that he’s preparing a meal for me. Immersing a plastic toy and pretending that he’s behind the wheel of a submarine. He happily played there, all by himself.

And I had such a good and relatively undisturbed ‘alone-time’ reading my book!

It wasn’t quite that ‘me-time WITHOUT kids’ session though (since it’s kind of hard for me to have such a ‘time-off’, UNLESS both kids are asleep!), and so I just made do with whatever situation that came my way and enjoyed that one hour break.

It was refreshing, I must say.

Do you have regular ‘me-time’ sessions?

Or should I say, when was the last time you had your ‘me-time’, and how was it? *smile*

    Hi Leonny,

What school do you send Anya to? Is it good?
Am considering sending my daughter next year and am scouting around now. =)

Now THAT’s nice, to have a regular me-time ya !! Of course a supportive hubby helps big time too!!

Ya, definitely more ‘me-time’ hours when our kids start their schooling days ya … Thanks for sharing!!

I totally know what you mean … I do similar things too within those 3 hours (which basically translates to about 1.5hours after taking out the time spent traveling back and forth)

And it’s interesting isn’t it … how simple things (like reading a magazine and enjoying a cup of coffee) can leave us feeling better and refreshed .. ๐Ÿ™‚ I find it therapeutic too!

    Cakey:

At Anya’s school, the playground is where parents can wait for their children (eg. when picking kids up, etc). The playground is located towards the ‘outside’ of the the school compound, and it has a little ‘metal fence’ to stop people from freely and easily entering the main school area…

So that’s where Vai gets to play (and get his sun tan!), and I get to read my book and go through my to-do-list! ๐Ÿ˜€

even when jodie was in halfday school, i hardly have me-time cos the short three hours (end up one and half hr after minusing the travelling time for mama) was only enough for me to go home, do laundry, do housework plus cook soup for dinner. only when she started fullday school, then i had the chance to first, start writing my own blog. then i started working part-time. the current part-time work only takes 4hr in the morning, so that leaves me occasionally the salon visit plus eyebrow trimming session. after which i will go buy myself the latest young parents magazine n sit at mac to enjoy myself a capuccino. thats juz abt it but i find it totally therapeutic!

I agree how much I long for ‘ me time’ ever since I had Ethan. I am thankful that Ethan takes pretty long naps even up till now and so those are the time I spend doing my stuff. But even then, its usually things that really need to be done. Not so much time to relax and have coffee with friends.

However, since he started his half day playgroup recently, I must admit that I truly have more ‘me time’. I can now arrange for lunch with a friend or go to the library myself or go for my facial….some true R & R time. ๐Ÿ™‚

fri night is usually my girlie night out, catch up with girlfriends over dinner.
last night though, hubby was very kind to look after our daughter while i went to a friend’s place for dinner with the other 3 ladies. i couldn’t remember when was the last time i laughed so much, until my cheek is so sore. very refreshing catch up, went away encouraged and inspired.
