Juggling my many roles

Last night someone asked about how my typical day goes. And come to think of it, it’s kind of hard to say, because it hardly is the same everyday. I mean, we may be out and about for one whole day and work past midnight, and be a lot more relaxed the next day.

Overall, Anya’s day is somehow more predictable though.

Simply put, it goes like this:
wake up, breakfast, shower, playtime, lunch, playtime, nap, afternoon snack, playtime, shower, dinner, playtime and bedtime.

But being our kid, Anya (since she’s a month old) learns to adjust her day to our schedule too, which means she may need to nap in her pram, stop at a corner somewhere to have her formula or getting breastfed ‘on-the-go’!

(Btw, she completely switched to formula when she’s 13.5 months old).

So far, things have not always been easy. Juggling between work, being a fulltime Mom and wife, plus having the privilege to take part in some ministry at church.

And I think, it helps a lot whenever I think that : things may not be easy, but they’re (most likely) not impossible to accomplish.

Yes we may have to adjust our lifestyle, sleep less on certain days or work till four in the morning. But it’s part of life’s challenges, isn’t it?

I guess I don’t really think about it much too. If I have to do something, then then I’ll just do it.

And oh, I reckon, having a supportive hubby also helps! A lot.

When I have to rush (and this situation happens quite often!), Wilson helps in getting Anya ready, changing her diapers and stuff. And on days when I feel down or discouraged, he’s there to get me up and going again. And to me, this too is one reason why I can still do what I do today.

Well anyway, most important of all is that I personally believe that God gives us enough strength to go through the many different situations we come across everyday. And for each situation, however tough it may be, there’s always a lesson to be learned. A lesson that will better equip us when faced with even tougher challenges ahead.

Things kids do …

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

Just a few of the things kids can do with daddy’s shirt:

>> play ‘Peek-a-boo’
>> play ’see if you can still see your feet’
>> play ’see if you can run without falling down’
>> See if the floor gets cleaner after you walk around the house

Cousins

Category : Family & Friends · No Comments »

Jojo, short for Josephine, is one of Anya’s cousins. She’s 4 years older and lives in Melbourne. And, the interesting this is, some reckon they kind of look alike (ie. when Jojo was at Anya’s age)

Btw, this photo was taken in 2001, when Jojo was around 1.5 years old!

(And I feel I look so young here! Hehe)

Today’s Words of Wisdom:

‘My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry.”
James 1:19

One of the many reasons why we’re given two ears and just one mouth ?

We had such a busy weekend! It was packed with going out with my parents (who’re here on a few days visit), event coordinations, and of course the event itself.

Lantern Festival 2005

Category : Activities for kids, Kids & Kids · No Comments »

We went to this year’s Lantern Festival held at The Chinese Garden a few days ago.

The last time we went was last year, when Anya was only 8 months old. At the time she wasn’t too interested in the colourful lanterns. She fell asleep in her pram too!

This year’s visit was definitely different! With their safari-theme, she saw hundreds of lanterns in shapes of elephants, tigers, monkeys, etc. Animals that she’s familiar with. And THAT got her excited!

Anyway, if you ask me, this year’s festival is better than last year’s!

Indonesian Arts Fest 2005 : how it all went

Category : Kids & Kids, Work · No Comments »

Just a little update on how the Indo Arts Festival went last Saturday.

Overall, it went quite well, I think. The sound system needed some upgrading / fixing though. But other than that, we enjoyed ourselves. The performances, the singing, dancing were all pretty nice.

More than 1000 people came to watch and I think Anya was the youngest audience there! Didn’t see anyone else coming with a pram. All other kids were at least 4 years old.

We sat at the very far back and Anya made friends with the people sitting around us. When the show started, she sat on my lap, watched the performances and clapped along.

I expected that she’d get bored and start making noises during the quieter part of the show, but she was alright all throughout. Well, she did make a little ’sss… ssss’ sound when it was all quiet, hehe … but other than that, she’s okay.  Excellent.

[the fact that the festival itself is mostly rather loud helped too, cause hardly anyone could hear us talk or scream anyway. Hehe]

She fell asleep at around 10.30pm, in the middle of the rather loud band and singing. And, she stayed asleep until the next morning.

Playground incident

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

Anya and I went to the playground again today for some climbing and sliding activities.

She went on the bouncy thingies without asking for help. Which was good, considering how she reacted the last time we were there.

Anyway today she went to try the steeper slide.

And to cut the story short, she sat at the top of the slide and I squatted at the bottom of the slide, taking a photo of her ‘very first attempt on the steep slope by herself’. Then Anya somehow pushed herself down (when she’s supposed to wait up there until I said go), AND landed right-cheek first on the ground!

Ooops.

Good thing the ground was kinda padded and that I caught her ‘in the air’ just in time. Well, at least it minimised the impact a little.

The whole situation was somehow very funny though, and I was laughing away while Anya looked a little confused. Haha. I guess she’s still trying to figure out what has just happened.

Anyway, she didn’t cry at all and she went down the same slide again for many times after that (with a pinkish right cheek).

Looking back, I guess if I panicked, she would’ve cried from shock and probably come home rather traumatised from the whole incident.

In her case though, judging from her reaction afterwards, somehow I think she gained more confidence.

Unexpected, but … it’s good!

Indonesian Arts Festival

Category : Work · No Comments »

There’s this Indonesian Art Festival happening on Saturday night and we’re all going to see it.

It’s nice seeing Indonesian students get together and put up this arts event all on their own. The very first one was held 2 years ago. We didn’t go, but we heard it went real well.

Btw, WILSONPICTURES is one of the sponsors supporting the event too! *WOOHOO*

Anyway, I’ll tell you how it goes next week.
