Growing independence

Welcome to Leonny's site! If you're new at Everyday Things and you enjoy the site, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. This way you'll be notified whenever there's a new post! Thanks for visiting!

Anya is SO into self-feeding lately and I just have to animate her photos! Hehe.

Being a ‘beginner’ in this area, only about 20% of the spoon’s content goes into the mouth successfully though! The rest sort of ends up EVERYWHERE else!

While we’re clearing our stuff

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

Yeah yeah yeah … it’s nearly 2 months since we’ve moved into our new home and YET there’re still boxes in our storeroom waiting to be cleared.

AND, if it wasn’t because of some ‘misplaced’ documents that we desperately need right now, those boxes would probably be stuck in there for much longer.

Anyway, this is Anya wearing my old red bandana I found in one of the boxes!

Anya : 14.5 months

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

> Her top and bottom molars are coming out. Not sure if this is the cause of her recent annoying ‘hobby’ called ‘let’s-spew-some-food-all-over-the-place-and-make-mommy-go-nuts!’

Lately, her spewing episodes got better, though! To my DELIGHT!

> She’s completely weaned and is drinking 500ml - 700ml of formula milk, on average (Yipee!!)

> She likes to play with our pens and pencils. And so we got her crayons and a drawing book. She loved it! (Err, she sometimes draws on the floor too! I’d usually then give her a killer look and told her to draw only on paper. She’d then look at the floor, point at it and say, ‘No..no..no..no..no!!’

*smile*

Tennis: an early introduction

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

Sometimes we let Anya play with our tennis racket. She’d lift it up, fiddle with its strings or play with the rubbery handle.

We parents can only encourage our kids to pick up different sports and nurture that sporty side of them.

And you never know. A simple hobby could lead to … say, world tournaments!

The value of Time

Category : Family & Friends, Principles & Values · No Comments »

My grandparents came to visit us for a few days. And, yes, … in their old age, they both STILL love to travel. They’re blessed with good health and I’m really glad Anya still gets to know her great grandparents (Their age difference is 84 years!!).

My grandpa told me that at their age, they’d like to enjoy life while they still can. They love to travel and that’s why they still go around the world so very often to visit their kids and other relatives. They go on cruises too. They hardly stay in one city for more than 3 months!

People live their lives according to how they understand the concept of time. Lots of people spend most of their adult lives working really hard. Perhaps, 16 - 18 hours a day.

And (consciously or unconsciously) It’s  because they believe ‘Time is money’ and that ‘Money is everything’.

There’s even a saying here in Singapore, ‘No Money, No Honey!’. (read: money comes first, then … love!’).

Rev. DR. Stephen Tong shared this concept of time and its value, that I find is very true.

> Time is Life. One has time only when one is alive.

> Time is Opportunity. Only when we’re still alive that we have the opportunity to live our live to the fullest, the opportunity to make the most important decision concerning our own eternal life.

> Time is a Record, because every single thing that we do in life doesn’t go unrecorded.

We’re all busy everyday. Taking care of our kids. Working. Studying. Running our hectic lives day by day. And I just hope that we are all reminded of the value of time, how we’ve been using our time so far, and how we’ll use it more wisely from now onwards.

It’s about passion

Category : Photography · No Comments »

Photography somehow has been an integral part of our family. We take photos whenever, wherever. More often than not, we take photos not because we have to, but because we want to.

Photography is about freezing a particular moment so it lasts ‘forever’.

The birth of a baby. The tears of a todller. The innocent smile of a kid. And it may not always be about someone we know. Perhaps, a lone man in the park. An old, forgotten shophouse. Fallen autumn leaves. Each object of photography has a story, and through these capture moments, stories are shared.

I sure hope that through this site and the photos featured in it, I can reach out and share to people more about the everyday things we all may face in life.

The ups and downs. The joys and tears. The beauty of life and the many blessings that we often take for granted.

Life in the eyes of a child

Category : Principles & Values · Comments Off

All kids live in the moment. They enjoy life as its mystery unfolds, moment by moment.

As adults, life of course is more complicated (difficult colleagues / clients, bills to pay, housework waiting to be done, kids refusing to eat their meals!).

But I guess we too can see more of life’s joy and blessings when we see life’s ups and downs as part of life’s great adventure.

Seeing the goodness in all things that happen in our lives. Learning from each mistake and moving forward. Enjoying every moment.

When we wake up

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

How’s your hair when you wake up each morning? Porcupine-like?
Lion-like?
Peacock-like?
Supermodel-on-a-catwalk-like? (haha … you wish!)

Well, Anya had an ‘interesting’ hairdo when she woke up from her afternoon nap today. Reminded me of a zebra, hehe. Or a punk band member in the 80’s!

On her own

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

We’ve been thinking about getting Anya to sleep on her own bed. But it just got postponed all the time. Moving house. Weaning her off breastfeeding. Relatives staying over.

Sleeping by herself on a bed is a big change in a baby’s life. And baby experts usually don’t recommend introducing the big bed when there are other big changes in the baby’s life. Just too unsettling for the kid.

Last night, she was playing in the other room and was pointing towards THE bed. I saw the twinkle in her eyes and I thought, hmm may be NOW is a good time to bring the bed over to our room and let her sleep there. And so she saw the bed being dragged and placed in the master bedroom next to ours.  And she was SO excited!!

She jumped on it, hugged the little cushion. Kissed her ‘cow’. She even insisted that I changed her diapers on HER BED!

Glad that it all went well. She woke up a few times that night though. But after that, it’s alright. A good 9-hour-sleep. Straight. Phew … and I thought it’s going to be a difficult!

PS: You see, … sometimes we are too concerned about something, when MAY BE it actually turns out alright. Well, at least it’s not as complicated as what we’ve first imagined.

Never give up!

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

Anya took lots of steps forward today!! WOOHOO! She tried and fell too of course.

Once she tried to stand from a squatting position, but fell forehead first to the floor and had a little pinkish forehead for a while. After some encouragement, hugs and kisses from Mommy, she went and tried to move those tiny feet again in 5 minutes.

I guess her crawling days will come to an end soon (read: the beginning of my ‘chase-the-little-kid’ days?)

Lessons learned from the toddler:
Anya toddled and fell. Got up and tried again. Toddled and fell. Got up and tried again. If toddlers gave up when they fell the first few times they tried those steps forward, I guess the world will be filled with people crawling!

Grown-ups sometimes easily give up when they come across difficulties in life. So I guess we can all learn from kids too, … to never give up so easily when we face challenges in life.
