Hehe. That’s us waiting for our bus home after we sent Anya to school.

Yet to watch ‘Hancock‘, and am looking forward to catching it on DVD with hubby on our regular ‘movie date’ at home!

PS: A few others that are on our ‘waiting list’ : The Dark Knight, Wanted, and Kungfu Panda, and The Mummy - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor!

Yes we’re siblings

Category : Kids & Kids, Photography · 4 Comments »

Because,

We giggle.
We snatch.
We cry.
We help.

We tease.
We poke.
We annoy.
We care.

We tickle.
We share.
We refuse to share.
We laugh.

But on top of it all,
we love.

Warning : ‘Terrible Two’ days ahead

Category : Kids & Kids, Parenting · 4 Comments »

Little children are naturally sweet and adorable. But on the other side of the coin, when they’re unhappy about something, their behaviour can be rather shocking to many (usually to those who’re not their own parents!)

I mean, a toddler can be all cute and cuddly, but within minutes he may become unhappy about something and let out his best screaming performance, regardless of when and where he is at the time.

[Yes that's us humans and our sinful nature]

Next month Vai turns two, and while he can be really sweet, cooperative and understanding, many times he does things that one wouldn’t generally imagine him do.

He can scream at the top of his lungs, test my authority, strongly assert his wants, throw toys (to the wall, to the floor AND to people - for the sake of simply finding out the ‘effect’ of his action), frown and slap my arm to show his displeasure, kick and fuss, put up his ‘i-don’t-care-what-you’ll-do-to-me’ face when I raise my voice at him and firmly reprimand him after he badly misbehaves.

[I'll write a little bit more about his (AND Anya's) recent emotional roller-coaster soon]

For now, though I’m very glad he still shares many many sweet moments with us everyday, somehow I just have this strong feeling that whatever tough situation I’m getting from him right now, it’s only the TIP of his ‘Terrible Two’ iceberg.

My instinct tells me to prepare myself mentally as best as I can, for there’ll be more ‘interesting’ (read: challenging and mind-numbing) things to come from this little guy as he strives for his growing independence and draws closer to turning two years old.

We’ll see how things go.

————————————————————————————————————–

How old are your kids? Do (or did) they go through ‘Terrible Two’ days? What were your worst ‘encounters’? How did you go through that tough phase?

Please do share your parenting experiences in the comments section. I’ll see you in there!

Video : “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” by 22-month old Vai

Category : Kids & Kids, Video · 6 Comments »

As Vai turned 22 months some 2 weeks ago, I notice he started ’singing’ a lot.

He likes to repeat the lyrics and follow the tune.

Anyway, here’s one song that he sort of ‘masters’ so far, hehe.

Click HERE to watch the video on youtube.

Enjoy!

PS: It’s true, ‘bathroom echo’ is the best!

Enjoying the moment

Category : Kids & Kids, Photography · 3 Comments »

Kids being kids are not always giggly and happy.

Just like us, they do have moody and cranky moments too.

But when they ARE giggly and silly, I do love capturing and treasuring these happy moments.

Just like these ones.

Vai and his encouraging progress

Category : Kids & Kids · 3 Comments »

When Vai was still a much smaller baby, I remember how he used to cry and fuss so much and so often.

He’d scream and cry for a very long time when we take him out. He’d fall asleep and be soothed only if he’s breastfed. Often, he’d wake up in the middle of the night crying for a very long time and none of our many soothing attempts seemed to work on him!

He woke up so easily from his sleep that he hardly slept in his cot (because soon after I - however gentle - put him on his cot, he’d wake up!). And when we’re out and about, he’d only fall asleep IF he’s carried in a sling and/or breastfed.

Getting him to drink his formula also seemed impossible. He rejected the bottle and was totally not interested in formula milk. A 30-minute attempt of squirting drops of formula from a bottle into his mouth while I constantly walked around the house - carrying in him a sling, talking and distracting him with anything that I could find - usually led to him drinking at most 50 ml of formula.

He cried, shook his head, looked away and swatted my spoon during most mealtimes. Getting him to eat basically was almost always challenging.

The thought that perhaps this child is a little on the ‘hypersensitive’ side did cross our minds.

Anyway.

Looking at how things are with him now, I have to say that he’s tremendously changed, especially in the past few months.

He doesn’t cry and fuss much. He eats relatively quite a lot and well (he now ASKS for food and fruits!). He’s fully weaned off breastfeeding about three weeks ago. His formula is still spoonfed, three times a day, but in general he finishes up his 200ml within 3 - 5 minutes.

He falls asleep by himself - on his bed - when we’re at home (I still need to accompany him in the bedroom until he falls asleep though as otherwise he’d start playing, jumping up and down on his bed and distracting his sister!). And when we’re outside, he can now fall asleep on his own WHILE sitting upright on his stroller too!

Of course it doesn’t mean everything is always easy.

I remember the time when he found Anya’s marker and scribbled on my bedsheet, walls and floor, or when he often purposely spilled water all over our living room floor, or the time he threw my mobile phone across the room and plonked our cordless phone into the toilet bowl!

And just like any other toddlers, he does insist on things and screams when he doesn’t get it, etc.

But really, when I look at how he’s doing right now and how he was before, I have to say I’m still very happy with his progress so far! Overall, I’m finding it much easier to deal with him now than before.

Oh btw, I do bear in mind though that he’s turning two in less than three months! Which means I may face challenging ‘Terrible Two‘ moments from him real soon!

Ah anyway.

I’d just like to enjoy our moments spent with our little guy, regardless of how our days ahead will be like later on.

Eating your greens

Category : Health, Kids & Kids · 6 Comments »

Like most Asians, I eat rice every single day. Like, about once or twice a day.

And so do my kids. For obvious reasons.

AND frankly, however silly it may sound, I can’t help but feel they haven’t eaten a filling and ‘proper’ meal IF they haven’t had any rice for their lunch or dinner!

[As a parent, do you feel that way btw? Just curious about how other parents feel about this 'rice' thing]

Anyway. I recently decided to try something different.

We had SALAD for lunch.

Yes. JUST salad.

Before Anya started eating she even asked, ‘Mommy, is this IT?’, to which I enthusiastically replied, ‘YUP! Nice and healthy vegetables!’

Each of us had a bowl of broccoli and corn (lightly boiled), lettuce, tomatoes and eggs, with a little bit of mayonnaise.

Anyway. The kids ate without complaints. They managed to finish only about 80% of what’s in their bowl though.

Not a bad start to eating more greens on a regular basis, I reckon.
