Caring for Baby’s Delicate Skin (And Giveaway of The Year from Kinderen Baby!)

4 December 201433 Comments

Now that I have three kids, I can’t help but feel familiar when parents share their ‘headaches and worries’ that come with caring for their babies’ health and skin problems.

Diaper rash, insect bites, bloated tummies, coughs, colds, etc.

Like all other moms, I went through all those with all three kids.

Mosquito bites.

Red buttocks a.k.a. diaper rash.

Redness on the folds of the baby’s skin.

Discomfort from a bloated tummy.

Blocked nose, leading to difficulty in sleeping well at night.

Now.

We all know, the common issue we face as parents when handling babies is, we can’t just easily pick any ointments or balsam off the shelf.

Because, these are BABIES we’re talking about!

Their skin, and everything else, is still delicate.

And really, it’s no wonder that many ointments / medicines / balsams state on its packaging how they’re meant for children 2 years and above.

Of course, we can always say that, “Neh … last time our parents also rubbed any old balsam on our chest and applied any kind of ointments when we’re babies, and we’re ok what?

Well, in those days our parents didn’t have the advanced information on what could be harmful to babies and young children. Today, we are better informed for sure.

Anyway.

The good news is, today I’d like to introduce you to these two products that are safe for babies!

Kinderen Baby Balsam and Kinderen Diaper Rash Cream.

These two are widely available in Indonesia.

In Guardian and Century pharmacy outlets, as well as in other general pharmacies.

(I heard that it’ll be made available in Singapore too, real soon! =)

Here’s a quick summary of what each one can do:

Kinderen Baby Balsam

> Warms the body and soothes blocked nose (gently rub and massage it on the chest, neck and back before bedtime)

> Helps to reduce bloated tummies

> Relieves itchiness from insect bites

Kinderen Diaper Rash Cream

> Soothes and treats diaper rash

> Helps to protect baby’s sensitive/delicate skin from diaper rash

(contains zinc oxide, calendula and aloe vera extracts)

Go ahead and read up more about it on their website, and their Facebook Page yeah!

My kids now are 10.5yo, 8yo and 3.5yo.

None of them are wearing diapers.

But with the littlest, she could still develop ‘redness’ in her ‘diaper area’ whenever she’s not washed up thoroughly with water after she relieves herself.

So for us, it is still handy to keep the Diaper Rash Cream around.

Plus, when it comes to insect bites, somehow it can happen at any time, and it goes across all ages =)

I keep the Kinderen Baby Balsam anyway in my bag.

You know, just in case.

Btw, I’ve been carrying a big bag since I had kids. I mean, I have SO many things in my bag!

(Who feels the same way? *Wave your hands*)

I feel it’s more like this ‘anything-also-can-find-in-it’ bag.

You name it.

Toy cars. Sweets. Snacks. Water bottle. Creams. Notebooks. Crayons.

Sanitiser. Wet wipes. Pens and pencils. Hair clips and hair bands.

Power bank. Clip-on lenses for my phone. Panadol and some other medicines.

Oh of course, my small make-up bag =)

(Sometimes I can find used wrappers, paper planes and some crumpled notes left by the kids. Hmphh!)

My husband sometimes says to me, why are you bringing such a big bag around all the time?

Well, it’s usually when the kids (or him) need something (when we’re outside) and I HAVE IT in my bag, then he understands. Haha.

Moms gotta do what moms gotta do =)

[These days, when Brie gets insect bites, she applies Kinderen Baby Balsam on her own. Under supervision always, of course]

Anyway.

  • 1. a) What is it about your family that you’re thankful for, this year?

This year is so special for my little family since each of the member – my husband, our little daughter, and myself as well – has achieved great things that we could have never imagined.

After 4 years of struggling with his PhD research program while working and being a living-abroad-father, my husband is finally approaching the final line – at the end of this year insyaAllah he’ll finish his writings and being approve to defend his thesis in less than 3 months time. Couldn’t feel more grateful 🙂

Our little sunshine, who is 3.5 years old, has been greatly improving her speech and language skills – considering last year she experienced a speech and language delay which had required her to follow a speech and language therapy program at the clinic of child’s development.
She is now an enthusiastic singer and a great story teller :). Alhamdulillah..

As for me, I wrote my first blog post at the end of last year. I started to actively write more blog posts at the first trimester of this year, with no intention other than sharing what I’ve experienced as a living-abroad-mom and preserving some family recipes. Surprisingly, many readers responded positively – most of them told me that I have successfully written some useful stuff. Wow! No greater feeling than being appreciated for what you’ve sincerely done and knowing that it had affect and brought benefit to others 🙂

My little family happiness is complete. I can close this 2014 with many grateful thoughts to TheAlmighty 🙂

First, thanks so much for the giveaway.
    a. I thankful for :
    1. Togetherness
I love my family because family is not an important thing but it’s everything. I can’t imagine how could I live without family. It such as life without air, family can’t be replaced. This year my marriage age has been 3 years. I always grateful for my husband that we keep holding on in the struggle together to achieve our dream. Although there are still many things that we have not been able to achieve together. But when we have each other it is everything.
    2. Love
Family gives unconditional love. It is why the love of family is much more important than wealth and privilege. And I’m thankful to God for having a family that’s been there for me. My mother that been there from the time I was a child to even now with my family helping with my little boy ‘Alimikal’. It’s worth more than words could ever describe. Understanding husband that been teach and guide me when I feel confuse. My little soldier that always makes me smile and touched. Although he still not fluent in talking, but I am happy to see how he grow. Full of curiousity.
    3. Health
Seeing my family in good health is my greatest happiness. This year my husband got a job from in Bogor, Indonesia as a website designer. The job that he had dreamed the whole time. This year also my year, because I reaches 30 years old. No longer young age but need maturity in dealing with various problem of life. Keep healthy until the age of 30 years and together with family is the happiest moment for me. My son ‘Alimikal’ reaches 2 years old. He finally stop breastfeeding this year at 2 years 3 months. I was thankful fot that too. He also learn many words and never discouraged to try and try again.
For me, my family is my strength and my weakness. I built it with much gratitude. The only rock I know that stays solid, the only institution I know that works, is the family. I do love my family with what is in it. For me is it just PERFECT.

What is it about your family that you’re thankful for, this year!

I feel sooo blessed. Yayy!! I’m so thankful for the unlimited understanding given by my family, for growing up so well with my limited caring. Also thankful for their support to me in my ups and downs. Jun-my hubby, Ryan- my son (9 yrs), Aimee- my daughter (2 yrs), you are the reason I can live my day brightly and joyfully. Thanks for supporting, understanding, loving and challenging me in my being as wife and mother. There’re times and lots of times when I questioned myself whether I’ve become good Mom and wife to them due to my limited and hectic worklife, but their hugs and kisses every night and morning made me realized that they care and love for me despite my “imperfection”. Especially to my son, Ryan that has been learning to focus and taking care of himself, you’re AWESOME. And, don’t forget Aimee that has starting to talk and expressing interests in arts, DOUBLE AWESOME. For eternal support from Jun. Thanks GOD for my AWESOME FAMILY.

This year, I am thankful that my son’s behaviour is improving. He has started to display more polite gestures, being more friendly, build on more responsibilities. (He is 9 years old, and he started to talk back rudely, getting angry easily, etc. It was emotionally draining for me to teach, coach and guide him.) So, I am thankful that I started to see a little light, although I will always need God’s help in guiding me to be a mother, in facing the challenges of ups and downs of motherhood. Hahahaha…

This year has been such a blessed year for us. Many things we should be thankful to The Lord. My son, Jonathan has already mastered all 26 of uppercase alphabets just a few weeks before his 2nd birthday. He turned to be a smart boy and yet a super active preschooler :). Moreover, what I am thankful of is that GOD provides one very supportive group for my son and I to hang out with and to learn with together. In this playgroup, my son learning bible stories, singing songs, and mingling with friends. I as mother also learn a lot from other mothers in this lovely group. We all learn to share, to care, and to hand in hand support for each other. One last thing that I am grateful of is that My twin sister got married this year as well :). So many joyful things this year. These are just a very few stuff that I could think of. Actually, definitely, there are a whole lot more that I could think of to thank for, but this letter would not fit everything that we list to thank for. Soli Deo Gloria.
