Keeping Diaper Rash at Bay, and a GIVEAWAY of Charlie Banana Cloth Diapers!

20 October 201216 Comments

Our baby Brie is turning 17 months next week!

And frankly, I thought kids at this age no longer have diaper-related issues.

I was wrong.

Out of my three kids, she’s the one who has the ‘longest’ diaper rash situation.

And, it only started some 2 months ago.

What happened was, I spotted an oval-shaped kind of pinkish mark on the skin at the fold of her right thigh one day (where the diaper lining is, about 2.5cm in diameter). The outer lining was slightly darker in colour.

Then in 2 days, the skin turned more pink, and slowly looked like it’s peeling!

(Oh, it looked scarier than it’s supposed to be!)

At the same time, there were 5-10 little ‘pimple-like’ dots in the diaper area (in front).

To cut the story short, over 10 days, the ‘peeled skin’ completely peeled off, and the colour changed, from light pink, to dark pink, and to light brown (100% healed).

And all the while, Brie didn’t act irritated, and didn’t scratch or want to touch the area. So I thought, the rash either was not itchy OR the itch was not that intense for her standard.

(Btw, by now, the area is all okay and cured, but the ‘oval mark’ is still there, light brown in colour. I guess it’ll take quite a while for it to disappear)

Then in 2 days, the skin turned more pink, and slowly looked like it’s peeling!

Having said that however, there are still some bumpy red marks / dots in the diaper area! (mostly on the back, towards the top of the diaper area).

They don’t seem to completely go away (though it’s much better now and is ‘under control’).

My guess is, it’s due to the very warm weather we’ve been having here in Jakarta?

Anyway.

I’d like to share the following useful links on diaper rash with you :

> Askdrsears.com – Diaper Rash

> Breasfeeding-problems.com – Yeast Diaper Rash & Normal Nappy Rash

> Desitin.com – Pictures of Diaper Rash

And this is what I do to tackle Brie’s diaper rash:

> As often as possible, I wash Brie’s diaper area with just water

> Leave the diapers off (with NO cream too) for a few hours when at home. From what I read (and actually saw), airing the diaper area out helps in drying out the rashes and in the healing process

> On affected areas, I applied either some anti-fungal cream or some calamine lotion (to reduce the itching). Usually when she’s about to sleep at night

> When diaper is on, I applied some ‘Nappy Balm’ by Four Cow Farm (it’s now named ‘Tea Tree Remedy’ as it helps in lots of other skin problems too, not just as a ‘nappy remedy’. A good product I happily recommend to others)

> When at home and her bottoms are no longer being ‘aired’, I let Brie wear Charlie Banana Cloth Diapers

Personally I find the above helps a lot in keeping Brie’s diaper rashes at bay.

Question: What do YOU do to tackle diaper rash? Do share your tips yeah!

Save cost, be more eco-friendly and love the diapers and design for our bb’s boy 8 month old bum, one size please! = >

How do we try to prevent diaper rash? Change his diapers often..Wash his areas instead of using wipes and let it air dry for a wyl after washing. If rashes do appear, I apply Desitin and it really helps a lot.

Baby girl is 10 months old.
Woud love to try on Charlie Banana Cloth Diaper for the baby because it’s eco-friendly and one of the ways to be environmentally friendly and save this Planet Earth 🙂 & also cut costs on disposable diapers. Any size will do. Thanks!

  • Shuy says:

In the past few weeks, I’ve been using disposable diapers on my newborn girl day and night. However, I started to notice that her ‘diaper area’ is a bit reddish these couple of days. Therefore, I guess this is the right time that I should let her wear cloth diaper more during the day to avoid any ugly and painful diaper rashes. It would be wonderful if I could win the One-Size Charlie Banana Cloth Diaper for my baby girl to try. Cheers!

  • Vicky says:

I have a 10 month old baby girl whom I want to start potty train soon. Either the one size or large size is fine with me. Thank you!

  • Christine says:

I have a month-old baby girl and would like to try the One-Size Charlie Banana Cloth Diaper on her. I love cloth diapers because they are more comfortable for babies to wear and reusable – this said, I can save my husband’s money from buying lots of disposable diapers every week. On another note, the colourful cloth diapers would definitely look so cute on my baby.

I have a 22 months old boy and a 2nd baby boy on the way. I would like to win the one size Charlie Banana cloth diaper for my 2nd baby.
I used disposable diaper for my first boy all the way until now and find it can be very costly. I also realized that his butt will feel hot when he’s wearing diaper. With singapore humid weather, that must not be too comfortable for him. Luckily, to date he has not gotten any diaper rash, only 1 time when he had diarrhoea and it was a mild one.
During diaper changing, I usually wipe dry his diaper area with tissue and apply Sebamed diaper rash cream before wearing new diaper. When he had mild diaper rash, I used Soft Ten diaper rash cream as recommended by his PD and it really worked wonder.
Change diaper frequently helps too but again it can be costly. With cloth diaper, hope I can save more and no more hot butt for my baby.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Grace says:

My baby Jordyn (F,7m) was start cloth diapering since two months ago, but just at morning to evening. When it come to sleep, i have to use disposal diaper because until now Jordyn always get rashes if she wear cloth diaper more than 6 hours (at night). Once she had rashes on her vagina because of this :(. I heard from motherhood forum in Indonesia, Charlie Banana has a good quality fabrics that stay dry for long time, esp at sleep time.
If only i can try this… I’d be thank u.

  • Yenny Lyne says:

I’d like to win One Size Charlie Banana Clothe diaper for my 2.5 month baby girl.
Cloth diaper is eco-friendly and $$ saver. And to prevent diaper rash, I let my baby off-diaper 5 minutes every time I change her diaper, and apply nappy rash cream at night.

  • Crystal tan says:
