The Singapore Blog Awards 2012 – The ‘E-Interview’

29 May 20123 Comments

Hi everyone,

Just in case you haven’t heard, Our Everyday Things is in the ‘Best Family Blog’ finals!

*HAPPY*

(I wrote about my thoughts on this just a few days ago. Click HERE to read the post!)

Now.

All finalists were given these questions to answer, and so here are my replies =)

1.    How do you feel about being one of finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?

My first reaction was, ‘OH WOW! I’m still given a chance to be in the finals again! YAY!!

(You see, I’ve been in the finals for the past 4 years, first two years under ‘Best Photography Blog’ category, and the last two under ‘Best Family Blog’ category, BUTTTT … I’ve never won the actual Award itself. That’s why I was SO happy that I could still be in the top ten this year! =)

2.    When did you start blogging and what drew you to it? Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?

I started blogging in 2004 when my first child was born. At the time, it was more about posting photos with captions so that I could update my friends and families on how our baby was doing. I then decided to buy the domain name ‘Oureverydaythings.com’ in January 2005. Frankly, at the time I wasn’t even sure if I’d have the persistence to regularly update the blog for years and years.

Today, after some 7.5 years of blogging, I’m happy to say that YES, I have continued on with my passion to regularly write, shoot and share (ie. Despite being increasingly busy and having more kids over the years =)

The content has somewhat evolved too, from just talking about my own kids and THEIR developments / updates, to writing on topics that I personally am inspired to share with others, ie. Pro-family messages shared from the perspective of a fulltime Mom of three young kiddos, as well as tips and other info that others may find useful (eg. Family places to visit, activity ideas for kids, photography tips, etc)

And, to further complement what I’ve shared in writing all these years, I’ve recently launched my Online Video Channel too – OUR CHANNEL, where I get to share even more with others, including interviews and reviews (coming up soon).

Looking back, I’d really say, if one is not completely passionate about WHAT and WHY she’s doing what she’s been doing, she’d give up blogging (or whatever it is that she’s doing) a LONG time ago!

Because, blogging demands time, effort, dedication and persistence.

(And when you’re a fulltime mom of three with no fulltime helper, ‘time’ is definitely not aplenty every single day)

I’m sure my fellow finalists and all bloggers out there would agree with me on this =)

3.    How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category this year? How do you think you will fare compared to them?

The good and heart-warming thing about ‘family blogs’ is, we most likely are familiar with each other’s blogs! =) I’ve also met up with most of the bloggers themselves at past events.

I know for sure that my fellow finalists are also dedicated parents and bloggers who give their best in writing and sharing on their blogs.

Really looking forward to meeting them all in person at the Awards actually (Yes, I’ll be flying to Singapore for the Awards Ceremony! Can’t wait!!)

4.    Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?

Haha, okay, I need to be brave (read: cannot shy shy) in answering this one =)

I’d invite everyone to come and visit Our Everyday Things because when it comes to families and children, we all know that life with children – however joyful and fun it sure can be – it’s also challenging and REAL. The content in this blog however, is always written from a positive point of view – without ignoring the ‘challenging reality of parenting’!

The blog is always out to encourage and inspire, to inform and to transform, to make a positive difference.

I myself is *very* far from perfect, and there’s just SO much that I still need to learn from life as a parent, which is the reason why I dedicate countless hours into sharing with the world what I’m learning and how I too continually learn to see and discover that life with children CAN be beautiful.

Because positive and good things are not to be kept to ourselves, yes?

Now.

All this while Our Everyday Things has never brought home any Award, BUT, may be, just may be, if a LOT of people (and the judges) feel that Our Everyday Things should bring home a little trophy this year, then yes, do surprise us! Vote for us pleaseeee … and give us the best shock of our lives when we return to Singapore this July for the Singapore Blog Award Ceremony! =)

Click HERE to register/login and vote for us yeah!

Thank you, everyone!!

Somehow I must have missed the link to your channel when I read parts of your blog yesterday. I am SO IMPRESSED ! First of all, I am not one to be so easily impressed, ok? But here you are with this blog that has been going on and on, all done while raising 3 kids. And then you managed to produce this series of videos – Wow ! And your kind of sharing is what the world really needs – useful, meaningful, practical and human at the same time. I visited the blog of a famous female blogger who was in the news and was horrified at her language and the things she said she was proud of doing. And I can imagine thousands of young girls who blindly uphold her as some kind of role model.
