Babies and Their Poop-y Business (Plus, Bumboo Cloth Diapers Giveaways)

5 April 201212 Comments

Just the other day, I asked this question on my Facebook status update :

“How many times does your baby poop everyday?”

I asked because I notice how our littlest one in the family (who is now a happy and giggly 10.5 months old girl) does it nearly after every feeding (solids).

On some days it’s 3x a day. On other days, up to 5x a day!

And it’s been like this since she was born, I think.

Oh btw, just in case you’re wondering, yes she’s still breastfed in between having her solids, and no she’s not having diarrhoea =) She’s been healthy and well since we arrived here in Jakarta some 3 weeks ago. Purely God’s grace, if you ask me.

Anyway.

I can’t quite remember how it was like for the two older ones. As far as I can remember, I think it’s more like, 2-3x a day?

And out of those who shared their baby’s poopy stories, some said their babies poop about 1-2x a day, once every few days (breastfed babies) and some are also like Brie, after every feeding.

How is it for your baby, btw?

I did some quick research on this topic, and here’s some info to share on this baby poopy business:

> Breastfed newborns:
– Pooping after every feeding is common
– Bowel movement after nearly every feeding during the first few weeks actually is a good sign — it means baby is getting plenty of milk

> Formula-fed babies
– Bowel movements are less frequent, but it’s normal for them to poop after every feeding as well

> Generally, if your baby’s poops are fairly consistent and he’s acting like his usual self, frequent bowel movements aren’t a cause for concern. BUT, if there’s a sudden change in the baby’s pooping pattern and his stool becomes more watery, do check with his doctor. This could be a sign of infection.

> Frequent bowel movements can lead to diaper rash. Coating the bottom with a barrier cream is recommended.

Here’s sharing with you some links to more readings on ‘Baby Poop’ =)

Now that Brie’s bowel movement is more predictable, I’m more open to letting her wear cloth diapers at home. Less cost spent on disposable diapers too, I reckon.

And here’s one cloth diaper that I tried on Brie. It’s called Bumboo Cloth Diaper (also called ‘Bumboo Snap‘)

I like how it’s really soft to the touch, relatively tight fitting and can be adjusted as Brie grows up (ie. Just need to adjust how we fold the diaper, to fit smaller/bigger baby bottoms).

You can get these diapers from Little Dreamers (Singapore), and here’s one good news to share too: there are FOUR Bumboo Cloth Diapers, worth S$29 each, to be given away! *YAY*

Great as a gift, or for our own little kiddo!

    Hi,

I like its cute design and adjustable size.
My baby niece is now 18 months and she poos everyday. She is wearing disposable diaper.
Especially she is quite mobile now, and think Bumboo Cloth Diaper will fit nicely on her butts.
Hope I can pass this to her if I win it. Thanks

    Hi,
My baby niece poos about every other day and I have heard many good things about wearing a cloth diaper from my friends. How they can potty train their babies much earlier than average babies and obviously they are better for the environment. Hopefully I can win this and give it to her to try. Thanks!

    Hi Ci,
Elin is now almost four months old and her poo’s are irregular. Sometimes she poos once a day, sometimes none for 2-3 days, and sometimes she can poo up to 3x a day! So far I’ve been using disposable diapers but soon I’d like to try a cloth diaper once she starts on solid food and potty training early! 🙂

    Hello,

My baby normally poops once a day at irregular timing. I have been looking for a cloth diaper for my baby since it helps to save money and save the earth. Of course, the main concern is that it will definitely be more comfortable as compared to disposable ones.

  • Daniel says:

My baby is one who poops once in a few days. He is totally breastfed and his poop comes out nicely so we arent too worried. Sometimes we lose track of his last poopy business! If my memory doesn’t fail me, his record was 8 days, normally 5. However, eversince he started solids, his poop became a lot harder to the point where he would cry as he strained. Absolutely heartbreaking. With solids, he still ain’t doing his big business daily, still 4-5 days. After changing his diet a little, he poops easier now.

I have heard much rave reviews about cloth diapers and am so eager to try it. Definitely saves $ until child is toilet-trained. Hope to win this to surprise my wife. I don’t think she’ll have anything to complain about since sonny’s business is ‘tegularly’ once in a few days. Thanks!

  • VivC says:

Spotted Brie’s cute teeth. She is beautiful.

I have been monitoring 6.5 month old Hannah’s bowel movements too, ever since she started solids 3 weeks back. It has increased from the usual 1-2 times to recent 2-3 times per day. Well usually, there is a good big job and I am happy to see it because I believe it is healthier to see “what goes in coming out”! 😀

Thanks for the assurance with Brie’s poo progress. Our little ones are on track lah!

I am also perservering to breast-feed during every meal. She has definitely shown a preference for solids whenever she recognises her bowl of food on standby.

  • Connie says:

When my baby was 2 months old, his daily poo habit changed. He started pooing once a week. Tho we were alarmed, the pediatrician assured us that breast fed babies tend to have funny poo patterns. He’s now almost 5 months and still poos only once every few days. This makes cloth diapering a breeze since i have less poo to wash off 🙂 I’m thus very interested to try out bumboo, whose softness I’ve heard much about!

  • Debbie G says:

Hi there, my little girl is 1 year old now and I am starting to try to see if she will do a poop on the toilet when she makes that ‘Imma poo now’ expression. She wears handmedown cloth nappies that I bought from the US for my son (who is toilet trained now) I’ve never tried bumboo nappies before but I’d really like to try a cloth nappy that is locally made in order to reduce our carbon footprint! And it’d be nice for her to have a new nappy that is all of her own in a pretty girly colour!

  • Jacquie says:

My 2 month old boy poops heavily in the mornings and evenings, and very light ones throughout the day. He’s not very fussy with dirty diapers but he is a heavy wetter. I’ve tried one brand of cloth diaper so far and have been rather disappointed so as it sometimes leaks within 5 minutes.

I’m looking for other options and hope to have one that’s comfortable for him too as he tends to have diaper rash if I use too many disposable ones. Bumboo looks to be one of the better options due to the material used and absorbency.

  • Yvonne says:

    Hi,

my son is 2 and half month now and his poops is quite regular timing. once in the morning, once in afternoon, once in night and once midnite. Can you imagine i have to change him where he is closing his eyes and wanting to slp. so i have to race with time to do the changing fast if not he will tear down the whole house. He is a heavy wetter and like to make explosive poop and his skin is very sensitive.
I heard lots of benefits for using cloth diapers so will like to give it a try.

  • Sharon says:

My baby’s poopy time is usually irregular, without any fixed timing. But generally after a solid feed, she does poop when placed on the potty. (sometimes she poops during the feed). I have been looking for a cloth diaper for my baby and have shortlisted a few requirements; comfortable, breathable, made of bamboo, easy to wear. and it looks like bumboo fits all the requirements.
