Anya: Losing her 1st Baby Tooth

16 September 201014 Comments

So my oldest child has become ‘toothless’ now (read: one tooth LESS).

That particular tooth actually started to become wobbly since some 3 weeks ago. Anya told me how ‘the tooth could move a little!’

Since then, she often ‘pushed’ the tooth with her tongue and wondered when it’d actually fall out.

She did tell me how it didn’t feel comfortable at times though. Especially when she’s just chewed on something hard.

So, on Monday afternoon, she asked me if I could pull that particular tooth out! (To end the discomfort, I guess)

But hey.

Before that moment, I never thought I would ever need to PULL ANYONE’S TOOTH.

I mean, …. eewww, it’s still STUCK on the gum!

And HOW am I supposed to yank it off? I thought.

(See the photo above, by that Monday afternoon, she could ‘push’ the tooth forward)

I told her, ‘Okay. I’d put some some ice cubes around the tooth to numb the gum a little and pull the tooth out, AFTER you and Vai play at the playground.’

I was trying to delay the whole thing. Obviously.

AND.

Errr … I chickened out.

When we got back home from the playground, I told her how it’s probably better to wait for Daddy to pull the tooth out.

I was honest with her though, and told her how I felt a bit scared about pulling her wobbly tooth out since it’s my first time doing it.

Five minutes later, she went to get a drink and on her way to the kitchen, she went, ‘ARRRGHH! Mommy!! Mommy!! Something came out of my mouth!!!!’

And I was like, ‘Oh … HAHAHA … THAT’S YOUR TOOTH!! YAYYYY!!!’

Glad it fell out on its own! (And oh how I hope ALL my kids’ teeth fall out on their own too, with no parental intervention needed!)

Anyway.

Took photos of the baby tooth and her ‘new one-tooth-less smile’.

Told her how a new ‘adult’ tooth will grow on that spot.

And she was happy. Very happy.

I’ve heard about tying one end of a dental floss on the wobbly tooth and tying the other end on a door, and when you slam the door, you pull the tooth!! Way too scary for us to do! Will never go for this approach anyway!

I’d love to hear how it goes in your family though!

Did you pull your kid’s wobbly tooth, or do they all fall out on their own?

How did YOUR parents handle this baby tooth thing when you were growing up?

I remember one or two of my baby tooth came out when my brother punched my in the mouth.
Then another came out as I was eating dinner (kalo ngak salah ayam goreng)
I think there was also once where I ate something and accidentally swallowed my baby tooth too ๐Ÿ˜›

When I brushed Anya’s teeth (she often does it herself) and came across that wobbly tooth, sometimes she complained how it hurt. Hmm …. so I wonder if I could use your strategy. We’ll see how it goes when the other teeth wobble ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Andrea:

Thanks for sharing how it went with your kids. It’s one of those milestones we treasure ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Shimon:

kebanyakan mmg gitu yah .. goyangin giginya sendiri, either pake lidah, dorong2in terus, atau pake jari hehe …

I remembered my brother was brave enough to help me yank it out. But since it took him a long time to make the thread loop, it already fell off when i kept sucking on it :D.

Oh btw, i’m not sure abt other family, but my mom kept all me and my bro’s baby teeth *lol*. We still have it i think…

Haha… My cousin asked her son to chew on bakso sapi…. each and everytime her son complains that his baby tooth is starting to “shake” badly… she said it works! hehe…

I remember one method of “tying the tooth” with a thread and the other end is tied to an open door, remember? but I guess that method is pretty scary :S haha

my kid’s loose tooth got stuck in the bread that she ate!

  • Michelle Rusliana says:

my first baby tooth, the lower right central incisor, fell off by itself, just like anya, waktu 7yo. ^^ the second one, lower left central incisor, mama brought me to the dentist to pull it off. then the rest of the teeth shd naturally fall off within the next few years, until ard 13-16yo. but bcos at that time i was going to have braces on, semua gigiku dicabut satu per satu by force, starting from the upper central incisors all the way to the upper and lower second molars, once a month by the dentist. ouch…! i got my braces on when i reached 12yo, after all the adult teeth grew out. ^^v scary ya…

  • ruth says:

haha, i guess my mum had it pretty easy when i was young. i was very intrigued and not really afraid about my loose tooth. hence I kept fiddling with it with my tongue and i went on as per normal eating those chewy and sticky sweets and voila! it got stuck to my blackcurrant chewy sweet and got pulled out ๐Ÿ˜€

  • LittleStitch says:

Hi Leonny, my kids are still young so I am not sure when the toothless period comes, how I will react to it. But I can share with you how my mum always deal with my shaking tooth in the past.

While brushing teeth, she will try to brush a bit hard, to see if the tooth will come out, usually it will. To us, it sounds frightening. I was freaked out too when the tooth came out and the blood gushed out from the gums. But it was an unforgettable memory. About slamming the door, well, it was just hearsay, my dad did it last time and said he won’t do it to us because it was a scary experience.

  • Andrea says:

So sweet! Treasured memories for sure. We tried to pull our oldest daughter’s first loose tooth and she freaked out so we just let her handle it from there. We figured it wasn’t something that warranted “freaking out” over so she could just do it herself. All of our three childrens teeth came out without our help and without any freak out moments. We did rejoice with them when they lost one and most of the time the tooth fairy remembered to stop by and some times even on the same night. ๐Ÿ™‚

The photos of Anya are so cute!

dulu pas kecil, kita goyangin satu2 giginya, sampe semua copot. no parent intervention. every kids should know this best. Kalau lagi bosen, goyangin gigi ๐Ÿ˜›
