Pregnancy Keepsakes: Keeper versus Thrower
[That was our very first look at Anya, our firstborn who was still 5cm long in August 2003]
I was spring cleaning our home the other day and came across a box full of keepsakes. Stuff I kept when I was pregnant with both Anya and Vai.
Their ultra-sound photos, their tiny hospital ID plastic bracelets, … even my hospital bills!
Now you see, I’m more of a ‘keeper’, rather than a ‘thrower’.
Although I know these things take up space and should probably be thrown out, I find it very hard to get rid of them.
I mean, they carry sentimental values with them.

But here’s the reality.
Our Singapore home is not big at all. And our storeroom is even smaller. YET, it is packed with too many things.
Toys. Tools. Old clothes. Junks. All sorts of stuff.
And so in the end (after looking through them again for a long time), I made the decision to throw away these keepsakes, but only AFTER I took photos of every single one of them (well, … except for the bills!)
Yes. They’re all now in a big rubbish bag.
Errr … but THAT rubbish bag is still in my bedroom.
Sigh.
I’m such a bad thrower.

Btw, do you still keep these stuff? Or do you throw them away?

I was just sharing with another the other day, how keeping such keepsakes would somewhat be easier if we’re ‘less nomadic’. Like, if we tend to stay in one country and at the same home for decades.
It’s hard to throw these away though, I must admit.
I think I’ll keep the umbilical cord and hospital ID bracelet, and throw the rest. I’ve taken photos of everything though.
I couldn’t bear to throw these away, and I don’t think I ever will.
Even tot of laminating those ultra sound photos of my boys, but worry the heat during lamination will spoil them… :p
I kept them too! In case, when I aged & can’t afford to provide any stuffs for my kids…I’ll give them these as their safekeeps :o)
me too KEPT junks ! my only u/scan pic for my lost twin, well i guessed i won’t throw till the day i went dementia then will be misplaced.
I kept my bills since we bought this hse in Q4 2002, officially moved in 2003 so imagined……me CHOKED up bills from then till now, seow leh !
i framed up her thomson newborn clothes together with her 1st mitten and boots. really brings back a lot of memory , including the long labour 😛

I even have our daily bills when we went for our 1st gynae check for shan, her pd bills, her footprints,her umbilical cord is still in my red small pouch!!!
I’m a keeper too. I still keep mine. But I have the ultrasounds in CDs instead of print-outs given by the gynae, so at least it is just one piece for each kids. 🙂
I keep them too – the hospital identification bracelet, ultra sound photos and reports, pregnancy articles I printed during pregnancy, etc … and I’m not sure when I’d throw them away… 🙂
I am keeper. I still keep them:p
one suggestion is to scan or take digital photos of them. store them electronically or blog them down. this way, u can discard the physical stuffs. 😉
I share the same sentiment. I’m due in June but there are so many things to keep and to make it worse, I tend to forget where I place those precious scans. Love your pictures!
