How Kids Spell Love

27 July 200910 Comments

We have a few magnets stuck on our fridge and there’s one that I particularly like and it says,

This is how children spell love :

T.I.M.E.

Children don’t ask for handsome dads or beautiful moms.

They don’t ask to be showered with gifts and new toys.

They simply crave for our time spent with them.

And the sad reality is, time is often the most difficult gift we could give to our children.

Yes. It may be difficult, especially for busy parents.

But it sure is not impossible.

Let’s learn to give our children what they truly love.

Our time.

    Hi Jen!

Thanks for sharing … and I’m really glad if you feel somewhat encouraged by the post and the site. If you dig deeper into my archives, there are heaps of posts on being an SAHM / fulltime parent too…

    Let’s encourage one another …

  • Jen says:

At times of struggle and seeing peers moving on with self-actualization, I do wonder if what I’m doing it’s right and worth. Thanks for reassuring that what I’ve been doing – being a SAHM – is worthwhile.

    Siska :

Yup … as kids grow older they’d sure ‘ask for toys / dolls / sweets’ – basically all the stuff that we parents usually can’t give them much for their own good.

But just like what Wilson shared earlier, it’s true how kids – usually when they’re much much older, even grown ups – when asked about what they remember the most about their ‘childhood’ … they’d most likely remember and treasure those times spent with their parents, rather than the toys part.

    Joice :

Tapi tempelan di kulkasnya agak banyak (and messy nih, hehe … )

    Nic :

Thanks … we do share heaps of similar parenting views don’t we ? ๐Ÿ™‚

    Gwen :

    Thanks!

(perhaps being the 2nd child, Vai picks it up from his sister? he’s started asking for toy cars, eg, since 2-3 months ago … though not as often / persistent as his sister, yet)

    Anne :

Thanks ya Anne! … glad if the write up can be a blessing to others …

this one is a very GREAT post! I’ve shared it too on my facebook ๐Ÿ™‚ and anya looks so pretty here..thanks for sharing le..

  • Gwen says:

Hi, I guess our kids haven’t reached the age where they actively ask for toys, heh! ๐Ÿ™‚
But I do agree, that what they value most of all and what really lasts are the memories of the time we spend with them.
This is a good post Leonny =)

  • Wilson says:

Siska: Well.. they do ask for toys many times .. (too many times). But interestingly for most (i would say 99%) kids when asked what was your most memorable event/memory.. they will point out one particular moment that we’ve spent with them.. Not when mommy gave me this/that. Got me to think.. what it means to “be with your kid” .. not just being there and do nothing, but be involved.

  • nic says:

    well said!!!

  • Joice says:

Difoto dong magnet di kulkasnya ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Siska says:

yupp…. walaupun yes, mereka suka minta mainan juga, hehe

  • Yin says:

Yep…Yep! couldn’t agree more with you!!!
