Perth Trip : Our Harvey Hills Farm Stay
When we knew we’re going to Perth, we decided to let the kids experience what it’s like to stay in a farm.
To live away from the buzzing city life for a little while. In a real farm. To have farm animals living (and making noises!) just outside our little cabin. To venture into a totally new experience together as a family.
And so we booked a place at ‘Harvey Hills Farm Stay Chalet‘ for a 2-day-1-night stay.
We drove down the South Western Highway for about 2 – 2.5 hours from Perth City and reached a small town called Harvey. And the farm is just about 8 mins from the city centre.
It was mid March when we went there and the grass was very dry, mostly yellowish brown.
The chalet was nice and simple for two adults and two kids. The weather was nice and cool, but when the sun started to set, it got even cooler. And by the time we went to bed, it was VERY COLD!

We bought stuff to eat and drink from the supermarket at the city centre and Daddy cooked some yummy pasta for dinner and lunch the next day (they have electric pans, plates, bowls, glasses, sink, etc available in each chalet).
The next day, early in the morning (when it was still VERY cold!), we joined the farm owner and fed the farm animals!
Having had lived in a busy city like Singapore, we found staying at an Australian farm a huge contrast to our usual routine here.
But we all did enjoy our little farm experience. And the simplicity of it all.

The room we got was spacious, carpeted. It’s an ‘all in one’ room, with a little balcony at the front, and another door at the back that leads to the simple bathroom (there’s another door from that bathroom that leads you to the outdoors hehe.
We went in March, so it was still rather cold in the morning, and it’s not all that ‘green’ (you’d need to go during spring, I guess to see the nice green scenery and all).
We have one queen size bed and another single bed on the other side of the room. I don’t think there’s an oven, but all basic cooking stuff (pans, etc) is provided. You can just go to the supermarket in town (some 10mins drive) and get your ingredients, and cook them in the chalet.
It’s a quiet place. After all, it IS a farm 😀

Hi, can’t see much pics in the web on this farm. Planning to visit them but need your comments on the room condition & env. We have a 4 yr old whom zz with us. Any oven as we love to cook & slack thru the farm stay. We loves to sit/picnic outside the farm & watch the animals spend their days.

We haven’t tried farm places other than Harvey Hills. All I can share about farm stays is that it’ll purely be ‘simple living’ there at the farm 🙂 especially when compared to the busyness of living in the city.
We enjoyed our farm stay, and trying out things that we would otherwise never get to do in the city. But I know of some who didn’t enjoy it at all because they feel there’s ‘nothing much to do’ there in the farm.
cooking is an important part of a holiday. i strongly encourage everyone to cook their own meals instead of eating out all the time.

It says that that they’re ‘bed and breakfast’ so I assume they do provide meals. I’ve read about other farm stays where they do prepare ‘traditional’ meals for guests too. Anyway, the farm where we stayed at is only 6mins away from the city centre where there are shops and food places. So I”m sure it won’t be a problem for people who can’t quite cook 🙂

Wow..what an exprience staying in a farm! Never had that kind of experience before..I wish I could bring my kids there also..but too bad..I can’t cook..can they provide lunch & dinner also?

The colours of the pic are very beautiful, especially like the 1 the 3 of you infront of a long winding road, and the 1 you and Vai were patting the pony, very postcard-like 😀
