Cruising along the Singapore River for FREE

14 February 200912 Comments

[Taken by Wilson using his iphone]

Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is running its ‘2009 Reasons to enjoy Singapore’ campaign (from today until 1 March), and this means we have a chance to enjoy FREE admissions to five attractions: Jurong Bird Park, Sentosa, Singapore Flyer, National Museum and Singapore River Cruises!

That is, if you’re one of the first 2009 visitors each weekend who come to the counter to redeem these free tickets! (you can redeem up to FOUR free admission tickets)

What you need to do is : sms ‘2009’ to 79777!

You’ll then get an auto reply from STB, and THAT’s your SMS passport! Flash it at one of those five Singapore attraction counters and if tickets are still available, then you’ll get your free tickets! (Read more about the promotion HERE)

[The closest we could get to a Singapore Flyer’s capsule]

We went to the Singapore Flyer today at 12.30pm, hoping that there were still some of those free 2009 tickets for us!

But of course by then, EVERYONE else has already gone to redeem their free tickets! (read: We need to come VERY EARLY next Saturday IF we’re still keen on getting free admissions to the Singapore Flyer!)

And so anyway, we decided to check out the Singapore River Cruise (read: bumboat rides along the Singapore River)

Wilson flashed the SMS at the Merlion Park counter, and he got FOUR tickets! YAY!

(note: you can only redeem free tickets from THREE of their counters, read about it HERE)

We boarded the boat at 4pm, and I must say it was VERY glary and hot. We still chose to sit on the boat deck anyway. The view was better from out there! (But of course, we all came home, again, a few shades darker!)

[Vai: Smiling while being under the scorching sun apparently wasn’t that easy]

We had such a full day today. Nothing ‘Valentine-y’, but we did spend the day with our loved ones.

Which to me is equally great!

Did you try and redeem free tickets too? If you did, how was it? I’d love to hear about it!

Wow.. seru. Promosi pariwisata lokal buat warga lokal ya ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Sudhakar,

As far I know, it’s for anyone who has the SMS passport on their mobile phone. All the best!

  • sudhakar says:

    is it only for Singaporeans?

  • Gwenneth says:

    Hi Leonny,

We went to try and get tix for the Flyer too on Sat morning but it was all redeemed. Wouldn’t have queued overnight lah, definitely not practical with two kids and not that desperate to ride the Flyer. Just that $29.50 x 2 adults is much too steep for my liking…
So in the end, we got the river bumboat ride too =) It was really hot queuing but once we got into the boat it was nice and windy. Lots of fun.

I overheard some people queuing behind me saying that after this (it was about 10:30am), gonna try and see if can get free entry into Jurong Bird Park and the Nat Museum. Fwahh…not so much energy to cover so much ground in a day anymore ๐Ÿ˜‰

Maybe we will try the National Museum next weekend =)
Thanks so much for sharing about this on your site. I get a lot of ideas for fun activities on the weekend with the family!

    Hann :

    Yup, 2.30pm! ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the most popular one is the SG Flyer (the one that costs the most too!).

A friend of mine reached the place at 8am yesterday hoping to join the queue ONE hour before the ticket counter opened, BUT was told that his chance is too slim as people started queuing up the NIGHT before!

And so he went back home…

  • Hann says:

    2:30 still have tickets huh.

we went at 9am. kiasu. haha!

  • Leonny says:

    Cika :

All the best ya … hope you get the free tickets!!

    Siska :

Yup, part of SG’s investment to promote Spore domestically hehe

Spore flyer disini jg mahal! makanya pd go for it when it’s free! ๐Ÿ™‚ adult = $29.50 child $20.65 Lebih mahal dari yang di melbourne then?? Gua rasa kalo orang ‘lokal’, kebanyakan ga gitu ‘rela’ utk bayar segitunya .. kecuali lagi ada promotion or something…

yang reflection di kacamata, … lu bisa experiment2 juga dong nih kapan2 heheh

    ………………………………………………………………………….

    Cakey:

Hi there! Apparently you must use the ticket on the same day you get them … (though not necessarily ‘immediately’, coz we got ours at about 2.30pm, but only caught the 4pm boat ride)

    ………………………………………………………………………….

    Lisna:

Oooo … ya ya … the day it was stuck was a bad one! Badly criticised too by the media and everyone else …

  • Lisna says:

Leonny, gua waktu ke S’pore Dec kemarin ini kan emang pengen banget naik “Flyers” nya. Tapi krn mahal banget jadi gua masih mau pikir2 dulu..eh tau2nya besoknya cici gua kasih gua baca di koran bahwa Flyers nya macet, sampe 6 jam-an kan waktu itu yah..wah, untung deh kagak naik saat itu. Cuma emang kelihatannya keren aja yah capsulenya gitu gede..tapi mikirnya kalau macet mampus deh, mau pipis gimana coba?

  • cakey says:

hi, can i chk w u, when u flashed the sms and got the tix, must u utilise it on tt same day itself or can save it for other days?

  • Siska says:

waaahhh, gratiiiiissss… kok baek amat sih pemerentah sg? foto kacamatanya wilson keren yah… hmm, gw ga prnh kepikiran klu foto gitu bisa ada refleksi kita hehehe. disini jg barusan dibangun kaya bianglala gede gitu. tp muahaaaaalll… klu ga salah sekali naik $25 if not more per org. sapa coba yg mo naek.
