Lisna:

Hello hello!!

I've tried this technique for sometimes.. and finnally found the secret...

to increase "success ratio" in taking good picture with this technique are :

1. Camera need to have FD - Face detection feature.. this help a lot when you do this extended arm pictures... because in many case, your face wont be in the middle of the frame / viewfinder. Most camera design to have default Auto Focus (AF) in the middle of frame... so if your face position isn't at the picture and your camera don't have FD feature, then the photo will goes out of focus / missed focus.

2. Wide lens.. if your pocket camera has 28mm (36 mm film equiv) wide.. then the picture will be much better.. I have pocket camera that has 38mm not so wide angle.. and extended hand self potrait will take only my face with less or almost no space left for background.

3. It's recommended... if your camera has IS (Image Stabiizer) feature.. help reduce a lot of vibration when you take picture... better and more sharp photo.....

I hope this tips will help you guys in taking better picture with "extended arm self potrait".. ^_^ *Good luck !!*

Siska :

Sis, hope what wilson shared helped a bit ya, in terms of taking self portrait using our pocket cameras.

Anyway, with this self portrait style, I think it's common to take a few shots before we get the frame we'd like :) My face sometimes is 'out of the frame' too at times hehe ...

Just a tip.. some camera phones are equipped with small mirror at the back of your phone. If some of you wondering what that is, well.. thats for taking your picture without seeing the screen. Those wanting to buy new compact camera like Ixus counterparts, I would recommend highly to get one with wide angles lens - 28 or wider (smaller number). This will get you more angles to cover as well as capturing those landscape pictures.
