Our Jakarta Trip : Wedding

29 November 20087 Comments

During our recent trip to Jakarta we went to my cousin-in-law’s wedding. And it was all beautiful.

Love her gown, her make-up, her hairdo, the decor, the classy live Jazz band, and the yummy buffet spread.

[Captured by Wilson when we’re all at the wedding suite before the dinner started]

The kids dressed up too that evening. Anya put on the little cute dress she wore when she was a flower-girl at a friend’s wedding last year (yes, STILL fits!), and Vai wore a matching bow tie, vest and pants.

Now, I don’t know if it’s just a ‘boy’ thing (because Anya is hardly like this), but you see, these days Vai likes to pull a silly face whenever we’re taking photos of him. Covering his face with his hands, pouting, shutting his eyes and smiling away for some ten seconds or so, and doing some silly gestures with his hands or body. So yes, taking a ‘proper’ group photo with him can be a bit hard at times.

[With their cousin, Keira]

[This was when Vai casually played with his toy train on the floor while we’re all trying to get him to take a group photo with his grandparents during our pre-dinner photo shoot. We managed to get a nice shot in the end. Yay!]

We were at the wedding dinner for a good three hours or so. And frankly, at first I thought the kids would be bored for staying around for THAT long at a wedding dinner, but hey, they proved me wrong. The whole ambiance was nice and casual, and we had a spacious area at a corner to ourselves.

They sat, ate, roamed around, giggled themselves silly, ran in circles and rolled on the ground. They kept themselves very well entertained! They were happy, and we happily let them be.

It was all good.

[Wilson spotted a really nice mirror at the hotel and so we took turns taking self-portrait shots of ourselves!]

    Hello there! ๐Ÿ™‚

When we talk about our tolerance towards kids and their overall ‘hygiene’, I guess it all comes down to each parent’s different ‘standards’ ?

I once asked a parent about this too, ie. why would you allow your kid to occasionally run around, sit on the floor of shopping centres, get up and run around again? (ie. no wiping of their hands and feet with wet tissues in the end too, unless they’re about to have their meals).

And the answer was, … why not? it’s not like they’re playing in mud or something ๐Ÿ™‚

To one parent, the sand on the beach is dirty, and to another, sandplay is fine but the escalator’s railing is dirty.

And for parents who see the beach sand as dirty will most likely find it harder to let their kids freely play on the beach.

As for me and my hubby, we tend to be more ‘care free’ about the kids and how they go about doing their stuff everyday (hygiene-related). To us, our body’s immune system will adjust accordingly too.

Of course it doesn’t mean we let them play or touch things that are obviously dirty (eg. oily glass windows on the train from people’s oily hair?), but if it’s still reasonably okay (again, to our standards ๐Ÿ™‚ ), we let them explore and have fun …

(after saying all that, Anya and Vai do wash their hands regularly and bathe about 2-3x a day though ๐Ÿ™‚ )

    hi leonny,

there’s this thing i’d like to ask u…

im a typical parent, i cant stand it when any part of my child’s body touches the ground outside home. i feel tt it’s so dirty and he’ll be carrying germs ard him. if it’s just the hands or legs, at least i can still clean him up with wet tissue. but for the clothes, hmm…

so can u tell me how do u stand it when kai rolls on tt carpet where everybody were stomping on it with their shoes on?

i know some western parents do not mind such action. i really wish to know how and why.

    pls enlighten me!
