Our go-kart outing in JB!

12 October 200812 Comments

We went go-karting yesterday at Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia!

The last time we went go-karting was over a year ago! And this time round, the group trip was organised by the Indonesian Professionals’ Association (IPA) and we joined in the fun!

There were some thirty-five of us (not everyone was in the photo above) and we all took taxis from the City Square Shopping centre.

And just like last year, we went to Permas Go-Kart Club again, BUT they’ve moved to a different location not too long ago. It’s now at ‘Plentong’, a smaller town in Johor Bahru.

The good news is, the circuit is now bigger and better.

And the not-so good news is, errr, the road leading up to the circuit is unexpectedly … bad! I mean, literally, it was offroad!

Our taxi had to slowly drive through what, more-appropriately, should be called a ‘jungle’ (on our left and right) for a good 3.5km! Gravels-and-mud-covered road tracks! And, the earlier rain and drizzle didn’t help much too.

Our driver – and all other taxi drivers who took the group there – was not at all happy. They claimed that if they had known about the bad road condition and how it’s so far into the ‘forest’, they wouldn’t have taken us there in the first place! And, they all asked for at least double the meter charge, if not more.

[We had a deal with our driver in the end : he’d wait for an hour and he’d take us back to the city]

Anyway, other than THAT, the go-karting experience itself was, refreshingly goooood!

The very first time I went go-karting was when I was in Perth. I was 15 years old then. My second time was last year. And so today was my third go-kart drive!

As I stomped on the gas to the max, I remember feeling how good it was to experience something so completely different from our daily routine! It was just, so refreshing!

Wilson and I so needed that (well, don’t we all?)

Anyway.

Here are more photos of the day!

[While waiting for the other group before us to finish, Vai observed his surroundings and Anya, well, she got herself busy wiping her Polliwalks duck shoes clean!]

[Anya’s checking out daddy’s hair cover, while Vai looked on, perhaps thinking how silly she looked with it on her head, haha!) Btw, every driver must put this on before wearing the helmet]

[Wilson and I took turns so one of us could be with the kids, who btw watched the many go-karts swooshing by quite intently!]

[As I sort of expected, we’re the only ones WITH kids! Hehe]

Anyway.

We both enjoyed our go-kart outing today! And hopefully we don’t have to way till ‘next year’ to have another go!

Hope you had a great weekend!

HI Leonny, By any chance you are from sengkangbabies ?

  • Lorena says:

    Hi,
Would like to ask if how much would it be the taxi fare from City Square?

    • Leonny says:

      Hi Lorena,

Frankly I can’t remember how much it was right now, it’s been quite a long while ago =)

BUT, I can tell you that we did book him for a ‘return trip’, since the location is very far away from ‘civilization’ =)

It works well for all parties, ie. The taxi driver waited for us to finish go-karting so he didn’t need to ‘waste’ fuels going back all the way to the city with no passengers. And, for us, we didn’t need to worry about getting another taxi back to the city, since most probably NO taxi would want to come all the way to where we were!

      Hope the info helps =)

    @Katherin :

    Yep I am!
    Salam kenal =)

Go-karting in JB is much cheaper than in Sg. We had to take a taxi to Permas Go-Kart though. If you drive, it’ll be much better.

As shared in my blog post, it’s a ‘long’ drive to the circuit (perhaps it’s better by now? am not sure). If you take a taxi, that taxi driver perhaps wouldn’t mind waiting around and take you back to the city =)

Hi, Leonny, are you Indonesian? I am Indonesian and interested to go kart at JB.. searching how to get there.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Leonny says:

    Siska:

    Iya seru! ๐Ÿ™‚

They have a go-karting circuit here in SG too (Kartworld), we checked out the place too, BUT the price is so much more affordable in JB!

    In Singapore, it’s S$40 / 10 mins.
    In JB, it’s RM35 / 10 mins (like, S$15,50?)

The SG circuit is also a lot smaller.

As for the speed (on straight track) I think it can get to 160km/hour, and more! (but then of course we’re not pro lah! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Ada belokan yang tajem juga. Soal serem atau ngga, gua rasa tergantung model lu nyetir juga kali yah .. hehe. Model nekad ya ga berasa serem:)

Anya did ask why she couldn’t try go-karting, and so I did a bit of explaining and she was okay ๐Ÿ™‚

    …………………………………………………………………………….

    Yin:

Gua baru compare2 lagi sama foto2 waktu kita thn lalu, mirip sih sebenernya. Gua jg ga berasa lebih ‘kecil’.

    Yuk yuk …. ๐Ÿ™‚

    …………………………………………………………………………….

    Sandra:

Yes yes! Should give it another try soon! ๐Ÿ™‚
(and hopefully by then the government’s done a bit more work on the road leading up to the circuit!)

    …………………………………………………………………………….

    Cakey:

It really depends actually. If I do have food from home, I may bring it along. If I feel it’s too troublesome and we’ve brought along too many things anyway, the kids will just eat there. For this trip, we ate at City Square first before going to the circuit.

Usually I’d check out the ‘schedule’ of the day to see if it’d be difficult to get food for the kids at those places that we’ll visit, or if we’ll stay for quite sometime there (ie. where there’s no access to food and I know the kids will want to eat by then)

I’d normally bring along with me some snacks (eg. bread / biscuits) and drinks (packet milk drinks too, if we’re going out all afternoon till the evening), so the kids can munch on this first when they’re feeling hungry.

    …………………………………………………………………………….

    Nic :

Hey you went go-karting too recently ya!!! So much fun!!

  • Nic says:

    Woooo…the thrill! what a great weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • cakey says:

hi wanna ask u when u bring the kids out on short trips like these, what do u feed them? u prepare food for them or just find food for them?

  • Sandra says:

Ooohh! i do so wanna go Go-Karting too! but haven’t been since … oh i can’t remember when but a long time ago… hmm… something to try & pursue when we come back for CNY ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Yin says:

kart nya kayanya beda ama yg dulu yah, le?? kayanya lebih kecil, gitu?
yuk pegih yuk… g belon pernah neh.. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Siska says:
