Bye bye old home

Category : Me & Me · No Comments »

We’re moving out in 2 days and we have sooo many things to pack still! You’d only realise the many things you own in a rather tiny space when you’ve started packing away.

It’s good though that the Salvation Army can help and collect used clothes, furniture and household goods from your home (all still in good working condition of course). You just need to call or email them and they’ll arrange some people to collect the stuff in one or two weeks time.

And as we’re busy packing the stuff away, Anya’s busy checking out the boxes and unpacking her toys. A little worried about where all these things are going, I guess. Hehe.

PS: I’ll be offline for a few days everyone … will definitely return when we’re done unpacking.

Two is better than one

Category : Kids & Kids, Principles & Values · No Comments »

It’s interesting to see how kids get motivated to do something when they see others doing the same thing.

I hope that as Anya grows up, she learns to screen out those she shouldn’t copy (you can only know the tough challenges parents face when you have kids of your own. Really.)

Thank God it’s Good Friday

Isaiah 53:3-6

“He was hated and men would have nothing to do with Him, a man of sorrows and suffering, knowing sadness well. We hid, as it were, our faces from Him. He was hated, and we did not think well of Him.

For sure He took on Himself our troubles and carried our sorrows. Yet we thought of Him as being punished and hurt by God, and made to suffer.

But He was hurt for our wrongdoing. He was crushed for our sins. He was punished so we would have peace. He was beaten so we would be healed.

All of us like sheep have gone the wrong way. Each of us has turned to his own way. And the Lord has put on Him the sin of us all.”

It is a day when we should reflect upon our response to what HE has done for all of us 2000 years ago.

Things you love … NOT

Category : Me & Me · No Comments »

Here’s one confession. I’m one of those people who’ll NEVER sign up and take part in ‘Fear Factor’.

Although I love watching the show, I can’t understand why anyone would want to gulp a ‘fresh madagascar cockroach juice mixed with blended cow’s intestines and dead fish’ in a hope to win the US$50,000 prize money. Basically I’m just not a big fan of gory stuff, creepy crawlies and reptiles (not to mention a whole list of other things!)

An old friend of mine, also from Perth College, happened to keep rats as pets. She told us that her rats were ’smart’ and clean (she bathed them with Pantene shampoo!).

I remember how she shoved two dark brown BIG rats to my face 10 years ago, at her birthday party! I was shocked! And she was kinda offended that I couldn’t see how cute they were, hehe.

After 2 hours I finally could hold them in my hands, pat their heads and put them on my shoulders (still didn’t find them cute or adorable, though!). And, and … *drums rolling* I still got the photos to remind me of that memorable-unlikely-to-happen-again moments! Hehe.

Now another thing. I can’t stand house lizards. It’s my worst phobia! Can’t be near them, can’t touch them (not even real-looking plastic ones). Can’t even look at a photo of it without cringing. Would seriously faint too if anyone threw one at me on purpose (now, why would anyone want to be that mean, anyway!!).

And I’m really glad my hubby is not scared of them, and helps keep our home lizard-free!

PS: The image was taken from gettyimages.com and it’s actually a photo of 6 lizards having a group discussion, hehe. I had to purposely change its look before posting it here so I won’t have to cringe whenever I visit my own website!

Morning jumpstart!

Category : Me & Me · No Comments »

The whole of this morning was just plain CRAZY!

Slept at 2.30am to finish up the stuff I needed to do but couldn’t do while Anya’s still awake. Got woken up at 8.30am by a call about an urgent project. Practically on and off the phone for the next 3 hours discussing and planning for it (other deadlines were due today too!).

So, for the whole of this morning basically I was:

- in front of the computer and talking on the phone (Anya’s happily playing with her toys).

- in the kitchen, with my cordless phone between my ear and shoulder, Anya on my left hip, my right hand’s busy giving her cheese and milk for breakfast

- in front of the computer again, with my left hand holding Anya on my lap, my right hand trying to type and at the same time distracting Anya from getting her little fingers on my keyboard

- in the kitchen again, getting Anya’s lunch ready, while my brain’s still thinking about the project and meeting its 12pm deadline.

Oh well *deep breath*, this is just a glimpse of how today started for me. It was busy like crazy, but the hours passed, the deadlines were met and I managed to come out of it all! Hehe.

PS: Oh, and just in case you’re wondering why the hubby was not in the picture all morning, …he’s away on overseas business trip (don’t worry… he’s not neglecting us both. Hehe.)

Taxi rides

Category : Me & Me · No Comments »

When we take taxis, we sometimes chat with the drivers and they often have interesting stories to tell. Some would complain about the Singapore government or talk about how the Indonesian government can do BETTER (this sort of goes automatically, ie. once they’ve figured out that we are Indonesians! Hehe.)

Some would share with us stories of how their passengers once ran away without paying or how they had to ask for police officers to wake their drunk passengers up (apparently, male drivers here tend to be very cautious about waking up drunk females to avoid getting accused of sexual harassments)

Anyway, overall I can feel relatively safe taking a taxi here in Singapore. Even late at night. Too bad I can’t say the same about taxi rides in Jakarta! I’d rather stay at home than take one, even in broad daylight!

A few updates

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

> Anya cruises along rails and sofas well and can stand up by herself for a few seconds, before falling down on her bum (but thanks to her diaper, she’s always well padded. Hehe)

> She understands most of the things we say and would do (hmmm, 60% of the time!) the things we ask her to do

> She’s mastered the skill of ‘getting down from Mommy’s bed’

> She LOVES playing with cords and cables. She’d go into our study room and head straight to where we keep all our battery chargers (unplugged, of course). These things keep her busy for a very long time!

> She’d rock her body to music everytime (Ah, good on you, Anya!)

My very own ‘mini me’ baby

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

I personally haven’t seen the movie ‘Austin Powers’. Have seen its trailers, familiar with Mike Myers’ characters in the film, just haven’t watched the movies.

Thing is, lately Anya’s been doing the well known ‘mini-me-one-finger-in-the-mouth’ thingy. Not sure where she got it from. She does it with her index finger, though. Hehe.

Early dental care

Category : Kids & Kids · No Comments »

I think getting kids to see that brushing their teeth can be fun should start early. Anya sure enjoys chewing on her baby tooth brush!

She’d do it while lifting her legs, playing with her tiny toes and … smiling to the camera!
